Paint Stripping

Paint and Powder Coating sometimes needs to be removed from intricate part shapes. An immersion tank at room temperature can be used, eliminating the need for heating. It can remove chrome-like indium coatings, powder coatings, epoxy primer with cross linked polyurethane top coats from metal and plastic parts. This may be compatible with aluminum, stainless steels, carbon steels, aircraft metals, TPO and other plastics. The need for an environmentally safe paint stripping that is user friendly, and works as well as cold solvent strippers containing methylene chloride is always important and the use of methylene chloride is becoming more restricted. Alternative paint stripping processes are becoming more popular.

An example is a single-phase stripping combination of organic solvent and an acid in a homogenous solution. Bath control, titration to determine acid points, and the reultant replenishments help to keep titrations working - water, a replenisher or more of the initial product can be added to help the titration. There are metal strippers and low-temperature alkaline strippers on steel substrates. Stripping powder coatings from aluminum can use methylene chloride and hot alkaline strippers.

The alternative paint strippers can perform better at stripping epoxy powder coatings. Methylene-chloride-based stripper and a hot alkaline stripper are also commonly used. Hybrid, polyurethane, and polyester paints also need to be stripped.

Paint Stripping Aluminium, Steel and more

Alcohol and a moderately strong acid functional group are on the same molecule, which means that paint stripping using an alternative stripper can slo mean that there is lower corrosivity, odor, toxicity and is biodegradable. An alternative paint stripper can remove coatings from many different substrates e.g. aluminium while helping increase safety and reduce energy and water consumption. Health, safety and environmental risks are reduced compared to methylene chloride and hot alkaline strippers.

Methylene chloride however has aggressive solvency, doesn't not contribute greatly to atmospheric pollution like some adhesives and aerosols.

Aluminium Stripping - to remove paint from aluminium extrusions and components, sometimes a low volatility stripping medium based on Benzyl Alcohol is used. It can also remove polyester and epoxy polyester powder coatings from metals without damaging the base metal e.g alkali sensitive metals.

Paint stripping of this kind is often needed for Alloy wheel stripping, jig stripping, steel stripping i.e. stripping polyester powder, epoxy-polyester powder and wet paints from jigs and steel components. Also there is electrocoat stripping, cold stripping ( Methylene Chloride / Dichloromethane paint strippers). Types of paint strippers include Methylene Chloride free paint stripper, Powder Coating and Lacquer Stripper for Alloy Wheels, Paint Stripper for Epoxy Polyester Powders, jig stripper wheel stripper, powder coating stripper, polyester stripper, methylene chloride substitute / dichloromethane substitute, low voc stripper, epoxy polyester stripper and industrial paint stripper. Polyester paint strippers work on metals including aluminum, cadmium, magnesium, steel, titanium, and zinc. Ideal surfaces include brick, cement, ceramic, concrete, fiberglass, mason, plaster, stone, wood, furniture, gelcoat, paint film and proseal.
